The battle of Blood River was on December 16th, 1838. This battle was between the Zulu kingdom and the Voortrekkers. It happened at present day KwaZulu Natal, South Africa
The Voortrekkers had almost 500 men and 200 servants. The Zulu kingdom had between 10,000 and 20,000 men. But, even though the Zulu kingdom obviously outnumbered the Voortrekkers, the Zulu kingdom lost about 3,000 men and the Voortrekkers had injuries of about 3, including the leader of the formation Andries Pretorius. The reason the Voortrekkers won the battle was because they had more advanced weapons and they were very decisive.
This Battle was so bloody and gut-wrenchingly horrible that the Ncome river was stained with the red of Zulu blood.
The battle was caused by the Zulu kingdom, which killed the Voortrekker's leader Piet Retief, his entire entourage, and some women and children. Witch ironically, they had just finished a peace gathering.
The Zulu kingdom was a monarchy in South Africa. The Voortrekkers were emigrants from the 1830s to 1840s that left cape colony and moved to South Africa. The two groups were some of the strongest powers in all of Africa.
